I've been busy, busy busy the past few weeks getting ready for the Summer Craft & Hobby Association Trade Show. I'm the Art Director at Ranger, so we've been working hard on creating packaging, sellsheets, press releases and more for the products we'll be introducing at the show next week. I have to work the booth, but the real fun part of CHA is... Girls Nite Out!
Looking forward to that and seeing what's new in the craft industry this summer. Should be an interesting time...

Tighe One On...
Yesterday, I went to the Cirque du Asbury Fashion show at Langosta Lounge on the Asbury Park boardwalk. The show's theme was a circus/vaudeville one... featuring tons of clothing from local retailers. So I couldn't pass it up. Funny thing though... I was totally enthralled by the performers (although I did love the fashions and plan on going shopping soon!). This talented young lady swallowed fire, rocked out to techno music with these cool weighted thingys and raved with some day-glo streamers too. And I love those pants! Impromptu emcee Tighe Swanson (a vaudevillian himself!) kept us all entertained while the fashionistas walked the runway. It was really a great show!
Edited 7/23/09: Okay, I did some research and those "cool weighted thingys" are called sock poi. I just ordered a set, plus the swingers (the ones with streamers), and a DVD from Luxotica. I am so excited!

Never Too Early To Celebrate...
Even though my birthday is on Sunday, I got to celebrate today with my work friends! I came in to a desk full of gorgeously wrapped gifts. What a treat. I got some great books, owl stamps, a cool invisible belt thingy, a hand-made wall hanging, two hand made cards, yummy cupcakes and some neato super fantastic Chinese wish cards. Thanks everybody for making this milestone a special one!

All Is Not As It Seems...
Today was a very Mysterious day. I got a tremendous amount of assignments done at work... Even putting out some unexpected "fires"! I stayed late to finish up some things. I also needed to work on a freelance assignment... a brand new ad... from start to finish! Back at home... done with the dishes and feeding the kitties... I had no idea what to do next. I had time! Where did it come from? Didn't I just use it all up? I guess not.
So... I went shopping! Found some clothes at Marshalls. I think I'd like to have some more Mysterious days...

Here Comes The Sun... And I Say It's Alright...
Wow! We are finally getting the summer weather I've expected since the beginning of June, and I'm very pleased. It's so much easier to be happy and light when the sun is shining... that's for sure. And I think everything is going to be alright...

Having A Ball...
I recently purchased some star shaped Klay Kutter tools and have been itching to try them out with paper clay. I finally had some extra time and wanted to create a base for one of my folk art people... using the stars as an accent. Okay... so I absolutely love how easy it was and the way it turned out! I painted it white and blue and then antiqued it with some dark brown. I will definitely be doing this again!

Class Was Fun...
My class this week at the Belmar Arts Council went well. It was a very intimate group that joined me to try their hand at freeform collage using their own personal photos, mementos and ephemera. Since they were mostly fine artists, it was fun to see how they interpreted this mixed media girl's techniques. Everyone did a great job!
Pictured above is Sandy Taylor, the BAC volunteer who talked me into doing the class. She is intently working on her Belmar-themed piece. It came along very nicely. Thanks Sandy!

Happy 4th Everyone!
Hope you all had a nice Independence Day weekend! I started mine off on Friday with a much needed 80 minute massage and some nibbles at the BrickWall in Asbury. The entire weekend was spent hanging out on the beach, meeting up with friends and family, eating yummy barbeque, drinking adult beverages, witnessing amazing fireworks, and I didn't do a lick of housework. I like Independence!

Collage Class at the Belmar Arts Council...
Next Tuesday, July 7th I'll be teaching a class at the local Belmar Arts Council on how to create a finished collage-style piece using your own collection of photos, mementos, ephemera and souvenirs. It's a great way to turn your collected treasures into a piece of art. So, all you locals... if you are interested, you can contact the BAC at 732-749-3360. The class is only $15 and there's still room!
